Sevy Done For the Year, Stanton Out Indefinitely

Giancarlo Stanton Grade 1 right calf strain. Boone: “he will be down a bit.” Made it sound unlikely he will be ready for the start of the season. Luis Severino is headed for Tommy John surgery and expected to miss the 2020 season after a dye contrast MRI revealed a partial UCL tear in his elbow. Jordan Montgomery and JA Happ are probably slotted in behind Gerrit Cole and Masahiro Tanaka. Maybe Chad Green as an opener on 5th starter days.. or Jonathon Loaisiga.. Luis Cessa will get a start or two..The Yankees are loaded with young arms in Michael King, Devi Garcia, Clarke Schmidt, that may get a chance to be a part of the rotation. James Paxton starts throwing next week, and says he’ll be back in May. Domingo German comes back in the beginning of June. The Yankees won 103 games and barely missed the World Series last year without Luis Severino and Giancarlo Stanton for most of the season.

Giancarlo Stanton Grade 1 right calf strain. Boone: “he will be down a bit.” Made it sound unlikely he will be ready for the start of the season.
Stanton's calf strain occured at the end of his defensive work yesterday, Boone said. He stayed back from the Blue Jays trip with most of the veterans. Got the MRI result, and it didn’t look good.
Since the start of 2019, Giancarlo Stanton has missed time with:
A strained left biceps
A strained left shoulder
A strained left calf
A strained right PCL
A strained right quad
A strained right calf

Luis Severino is headed for Tommy John surgery and expected to miss the 2020 season after a dye contrast MRI revealed a partial UCL tear in his elbow.
The 2019 Yankees medical staff clearing Luis Severino to pitch a potential Game 7 in the ALCS after complaining about forearm pain following Game 3 was their final parting gift.
He threw just 20 innings between the regular season and postseason last season.
At this time last year, Severino was viewed as one of the majors’ best SPs and there was some criticism that he had taken a 4-yr, $40M extension from the Yankees rather than seek more or go year to year. He will have 5 starts total between 2019-20 now.
A dye contrast MRI finally revealed a partial UCL tear in Luis Severino. He is headed for Tommy John surgery and will miss the 2020 season. Testing also revealed pain in the area of the ligament for the first time. Brian Cashman said in-house competition will fill his spot.
It won’t be Devi Garcia.. and I like Clarke Schmidt as much as anyone, but I don’t think he breaks the team out of camp, AAA and Schmidt only has 19 innings in AA. He’s probably a mid season call up, at best, if at all.
Jordan Montgomery and JA Happ are probably slotted in behind Gerrit Cole and Masahiro Tanaka. Maybe Chad Green as an opener on 5th starter days.. or Jonathon Loaisiga.. Luis Cessa will get a start or two..
The Yankees are loaded with young arms in Michael King, Devi Garcia, Clarke Schmidt, that may get a chance to step up. James Paxton is going to start throwing next week, and says he’ll be back in May. Domingo German comes back in the beginning of June.

Yankees likely to start season on IL:
Hicks, Paxton, Severino, Stanton

The Yankees won 103 games and barely missed the World Series last year without Luis Severino and Giancarlo Stanton for most of the season.
They’ve since added Gerrit Cole and have Miguel Andujar back.
Don’t overreact to the injuries. This season will still be great for the Bronx Bombers. They have to get off to a decent start, and get guys back in May and June and then go win us a World Series.
